Have you started your list?
What list? You haven’t started?
Your Christmas Gift List of course.
There are only 7 Fridays until Christmas!
There’s always a lot of excitement and anticipation approaching the holidays. Most of us enjoy giving and receiving gifts at Christmas.
As parents, though, we need to be sure we give our children the BEST gifts all year long.
Over the next few weeks we will briefly discuss some of the best gifts you can give your children, year-round, to help them grow into confident, healthy adults.
The first, and most invaluable gift, is the GIFT OF SALVATION. Of course, if you’re not sure you have received the gift of salvation for yourself, you need to take care of that first and foremost! We cannot teach our children what we don’t know, and we cannot offer them what we do not possess.
- All of us have need of a savior because we have been alienated from God ~ read Romans 3:23-24
- Jesus came to be the ‘blood sacrifice – or payment’ for our sins. ~ read John 3:16
- There is no way to come into good standing with God outside of Jesus- there is nothing we can do to earn His forgiveness. ~ read John 14:6 and Ephesians 2:4-9
- We cannot save ourselves, or our children – each person must make their own decision about a relationship with Jesus.
If this information is not familiar to you, or you have not made that decision to have a personal relationship with Jesus as your Savior, stop what you are doing and ask Jesus to come and be Lord of your life- and then talk to someone you respect who does have this relationship. (You can also contact one of the iL4C team members to discuss what this relationship means, and how to get there).
If you are already in a relationship with the Lord, evaluate to what degree you have shared the importance of this relationship with your children. Just taking our kids to VBS or church, does NOT cause them to automatically have their own walk of faith. It is a good start, but it does not ensure them salvation.
God has no spiritual grandchildren!
The best gift you can ever give your child is to be diligent about introducing them to the Lord, and guide them along in the process of realizing what it means to walk with Jesus as their Savior!
At the time of our salvation, we also receive God’s forgiveness of our sins, through the redeeming blood of Christ shed at the cross; unconditional love for us, as His children; His complete acceptance of us as rescued and redeemed followers.
Knowing that we are seen by God as those who were dirty and stained by sin, but who are now washed clean and spotless by the blood of Christ, helps create in us a new picture of who we ‘really’ are. We are truly forgiven, perfectly accepted and unconditionally loved children of the Creator of the Universe and Lord over all!
This new identity and new life in Christ, as children of God, is the BEST gift you can ever try to give your children!!
Without this, no other gifts or accomplishments in life will ever matter.
Make this the BEST CHRISTMAS ever! Begin now to seek, or renew, your own relationship with Jesus. Start now to share this important relationship with your children. Begin now to focus on the TRUE meaning of the Christmas Season- The miraculous birth of the Savior in flesh that would one day die in our place on a cross so that we could live forgiven and free!
Check out this great old hymn that explains there is NOTHING we can do to earn or claim salvation of our own doing. It MUST come from the sacrifice of Jesus!
